North Pantanal

The PANTANAL, the largest contiguous wetland on the planet, declared a World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, is South America's primary wildlife sanctuary. With a total area of approximately 150,000km² it is a biogeography mixing bowl containing elements of the Amazon Forest, the Caatinga, the Brazilian Savannah, the Atlantic Rainforest and the Paraguayan Chaco. This fantastic biodiversity includes: 698 bird species, 80 mammals, 260 fish species and 50 reptiles.

Suggested Itinerary: 6 Days/ 5 Nights

DAY 1 – CUIABÁ/ ARARAS ECO LODGE
Pick up at the airport and transfer to Araras Pantanal Eco Lodge.The journey is divided in two stages: the first, on a paved road for 100 km / 62.13 mi to Poconé, passing by farms and savanna. Then the second stage, entering the Estrada Parque Transpantaneira (park road) unpaved. The transfer is considered a photo-safari for the many species of animals and birds found along its length. Vehicle will make several stops for photos. Arrival at the lodge, reception, welcome with fresh fruit juice and accommodation. Late afternoon hike of the lodge surroundings. After dinner, a star gazing trek, to hear the sounds of the flood plain. Overnight.                

DAY 2 – ARARAS ECO LODGE
After breakfast, departure to Rio Clarinho (river) riding on the flood plain ways. At Rio Clarinho riverbank, take a canoe and explore its banks, mangroves and forest. With luck, a sight of a family of ariranhas (giant otters) will be nearby. Possibility of fishing the famous Piranha. A picnic barbecue lunch will be prepared at the camp site. Return to the lodge at the end of the afternoon. Dinner and Overnight.         

DAY 3 – ARARAS ECO LODGE/ PORTO JOFRE HOTEL
After breakfast, departure to Porto Jofre hotel by taking the Transpantaneira road, for a Jaguar spotting experience. Arrival and lunch at hotel. Balance the day at leisure, dinner and overnight.

DAY 4 –PORTO JOFRE HOTEL
Breakfast followed by 04 hours morning research on boats of 40 hp. Lunch at the Hotel. Afternoon boat trip research. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 5 –PORTO JOFRE HOTEL/ CUIABÁ
Departure after breakfast to Cuiabá city. Check in at hotel Deville Cuiabá and balance the day at leisure.

DAY 6 – CUIABÁ
Breakfast at hotel and transfer to the airport

October - it starts to rain, after at least 90 days of draught
November / December – the green returns to plain
January – the beginning of the high waters flooding the plains and basins, reaching its peak by mid-March, when the rain season ends
April to June – a progressive drying out
July to September – the plain is dry again
