Jericoacoara is a small fishing village located 185 miles and about 5 hours by car from the city of Fortaleza. “Jeri” as it’s known locally in the state of Ceara, it was listed as one of the top ten beaches in the world.
The village, set amongst giant sand dunes on the north coast of Brazil, is a real escape from the trappings of civilization, the last stretch of the journey to this laid back beach destination being made by 4x4. With summer time all year round and a reliable sea breeze, sailing, windsurfing and kite surfing is a big attraction here (lessons are available for beginners).
However, there's still plenty here for those not interested in wind-propelled sports here; with such activates as sand boarding, visits to the nearby crystalline lagoons and just simply chilling out at the stunning beaches. At dusk, the villagers climb to the top of the great sand dune and watch the sunset.
Although very rustic, Jeri counts with many great options of restaurants, bars, shops and all types of accommodations, from hostels to deluxe hotels.
